Story of Deal
A new chapter in the Hall County School District unfolds in the fall of 2024 with the opening of Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School. Located in the heart of Northeast Hall County, our school stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of community and education.
The origin of our school is marked by the union of the Riverbend and White Sulphur communities. As the final bell rings at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, the doors of the elementary schools in these communities will close, making way for a new beginning. The vision is to create a place where the children and families of both Riverbend and White Sulphur come together, fostering a vibrant learning environment for generations to come.
Our school colors –green and gold–pay homage to our Riverbend-White Sulphur heritage. The green is a symbol for Riverbend’s ties to North Hall High School, while the gold represents White Sulphur’s connection to East Hall High School. Our Tiger mascot is emblematic of our strong belief in teamwork, the deep respect we have for one another, and the immense pride we share for our school and community.
Our school is named in honor of Sandra Dunagan Deal, the former first lady of Georgia and the wife of Governor Nathan Deal. Mrs. Deal left an indelible mark on the state through her commitment to education. Her roots run deep in the community, having grown up in New Holland and graduated from East Hall High School. Later in life, she became a resident of the North Hall area, solidifying her ties to the very communities the school now serves.
Mrs. Deal’s deep-rooted commitment to education went beyond her personal history, encompassing years of impactful service as a teacher in the Hall County school district. Her unwavering advocacy for childhood literacy served as a driving force as she inspired countless young minds. As Georgia’s first lady, Mrs. Deal embarked on a statewide journey through every school district in Georgia, spreading the joy of reading to thousands of elementary school students. Her visits to schools, where she shared stories and encouraged a love for learning, became cherished memories for many.
Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School strives to embody the values championed by its namesake and its stakeholders. The school is more than a building; it is a living testament to the belief that education is a powerful force that can unite communities and shape the future.
